Todd, the narrator’s friend, in his note from Hamilton, Bermuda wrote to the narrator that the temperature there reached nearly 100.
The narrator was confused for a moment with the figure as Todd did not mention any unit. Todd certainly meant degree Fahrenheit and not Celsius.
When the narrator received the note from Todd, he expected that the dollar that he lent to Todd while starting for Bermuda would be in it.
