Why does the narrator feel uneasy whenever he meets his friend Todd in Stephen Leacock’s short story “My Lost Dollar”?

Whenever the speaker meets Todd, it reminds him of the dollar that Todd borrowed from him for paying his taxi fare. It makes him uneasy because he is in the middle of a dilemma. Neither can he forget the fact that Todd owes him a dollar nor can he refer to it directly while talking to him.
