In the first five stanza of the poem “The Heart of the Tree”, the poet implicitly compares a tree with a “flag of breezes free”, “shaft of beauty towering high” and “home to heaven anigh”. These are examples of some fine metaphors used by the poet.

Again, in the second line, where the poet calls a tree to be a “friend of sun and sky”, it can be taken as a personification.
