Julius Caesar - William Shakespeare
Shakespeare's historical tragedy portrays the political conspiracy that led to the assassination of the Roman dictator Julius Caesar.
In Act 3, the conspirators assassinate Caesar in the Senate, and Mark Antony’s powerful funeral speech turns the Roman crowd against them.
In Act 4, the Second Triumvirate forms, Brutus and Cassius quarrel and reconcile, and they prepare to face Antony and Octavius in battle at Philippi.
In Act 5, the forces of Brutus and Cassius are defeated at Philippi, leading both men to commit suicide and marking the end of the conspirators’ cause.
