What happened to Muni’s 40 goats in the story “A Horse and Two Goats” by R K Narayan?

Muni’s goats were most probably sold to maintain his family and also carried off by jackals or cheetahs. Moreover there were thefts from over the next village.

Jackals or cheetahs may sometimes carry them off. But sometimes it is just a theft from over in the next village.
