‘Tis God shall repay: what shall God repay to the patriot in Robert Browning’s poem ‘A Patriot, an old story’?

The patriot means to say that as he has not got the recognition for all his good deeds and as he has been punished wrongly by the people, now God shall have to repay him with his grace in heaven after his death. This is why the speaker also says “I am safer so”.
This is in line with Browning’s well-known religious ideology of getting paid in the heaven what is due from the earthly life.
