Does Rabindranath Tagore feel sorry or ashamed for his country? Does he dislike or love his country in the poem “Where the Mind is without Fear”?

Sorry? Yes. Ashamed? No. Dislike or disgust? No. Love? Yes.

The poet here expresses his sorrow for the deplorable state of his country and the countrymen who are ignorant, superstitious, lazy and not morally sound. The poet loves his country and that is why he prays to the Almighty to lift his country to a state of heavenly freedom.
