What was the recent incident that Muni feared to have brought the foreigner there in the short story “A Horse and Two Goats” by R K Narayan?

The incident was that a body had been found mutilated and thrown under a tamarind tree at the border between Kritam and Kuppam a few weeks before, giving rise to much gossip and speculation.
